Maribel Steel - (Maria-Isabel)

warmly welcomes you to her new website!

Maribel is a vocalist, lyricist, mother, writer and choir leader - wearing many different hats on a daily basis! She is highly motivated with energy and enthusiasm, encouraging others to find their creative expression through music, singing and writing.

Maribel has written, delivered and directed a diverse range of music programs in primary schools as a Teaching Artist for The Song Room (2007-08)

She specializes in writing and arranging simple harmonies, percussive and fun songs which not only appeal to children but to a much wider audience.  The desire to sing to children in hospital led to the formation of her current singing quartet 'The Lollipops'.

She also participated in this year's Turramurra Music Festival as children's choir leader - a wonderful family music camp in the spectacular Otway Ranges.

In collaboration with her partner, Harry Williamson, she wrote and co-composed a musical called 'Lace' - which is still in need of a closing scene! It will one day be picked up off the shelf and lovingly dusted off again and revisited when it's time to be 'born' beckons its completion. Link: Lace and sample Maribel's composition "Isabel", a heart song dedicated to her mother, arranged by Harry Williamson 2004.

She is currently working as co-ordinator for The Tarka Project, a unique community music and water event 'Precious Music, Precious Water" at the Melbourne Town Hall on 27 th February 2010.

Maribel is a writer and recently won an Honourable mention in the 2008 Vision Australia Dickenson's Literary Awards in the autobiographical section for her short story Many Different Hats.

She is currently writing her autobiography, 'Chasing the Light' book in two parts which tells the story of her gradual loss of physical sight but gained inner vision through to the here and now.  The second part of the book is a collection of short stories, some humorous, some touching, some extraordinarily honest but all share the common thread of an insight into the world unseen!

And when Maribel is not writing or singing or composing or organising music events or doing lunch with girlfriends or finding lost objects for her partner or overseeing her son's school homework or knitting scarves for the homeless - she likes to annoy her family by writing about them or singing silly songs!!
