Spring Studio
Harry Williamson is a CD and DVD producer who has operated his own recording studio in Prahran since 1982 producing well over 300 CDs for local and international artists and more recently, producing 15 music documentary DVD's. He is also a talented composer and musician in his own right, playing instruments such as 12 string guitar (in open tuning), bass, keyboards and percussion to name but a few. He has composed many, many original pieces with his most lavish orchestral work 'Tarka' (see link 'Tarka Project) and has played as guest musician for several bands and singers for their CD launches. In 2003, Maribel first met Harry Williamson after a performance by the 400 voice Melbourne Millennium Chorus at the Concert Hall. During their brief conversation, business cards were exchanged and plans made for a meeting to discuss a possible collaboration project - to complete Maribel's musical. Over the next nine months, Harry and Maribel worked on this music project, taking it from its original humble beginnings to a modern dramatic play. Harry transformed Maribel's simple yet haunting piano tunes to rich orchestral arrangements and together, they crafted the musical 'Lace'. From being music collaborators to life partners, Harry and Maribel now work together on a wide range of studio projects such as CD production, song writing, recording and at the present time, their most personally exciting up coming venture - The Tarka Project ('Precious Music, Precious Water'). Part of Maribel's work in the studio includes listening to the recorded music to assess continuity and quality of sound. Her nick name 'Big ears' has been well earned as she can often pinpoint the smallest of glitches due to her highly attuned sense of hearing. She would also hazard a guess at the currency of the coin accidentally dropped by an audience member by its tonal quality! Even a rustling crisp packet or mobile phone ring has been carefully edited from the recording with her insistence even when others have not detected these subtle intrusions to the overall sound. Maribel has also been invited to sing backing vocals for several musicians and most recently enjoyed letting her hair down and singing the part of Maya, an English hippie from the 70's for the school musical "The Battle of the Bean Field" composed by Chris James and currently in the pre-production stage.
